2012 Imperial Blue Metallic ZL1 Camaro Coupe

The ZL1 registry has been searching for the four Imperial Blue Metallic ZL1 Camaro Coupes produced by GM. The ZL1 registry has recently found the corvette museum giveaway car and we've been in contact with the new owner. However, we're still looking for the three other 2012 Imperial Blue Metallic ZL1 Camaro Coupes. If you have one of those cars, or know someone who does, please email us.

The 4 Imperial Blue ZL1's were "CTF" (Captured Test Fleet) built for shows and test models. The other 3 of them will be re-sold or be sent to dismantle. No one knows for sure what's going to happen to the other 3 Imperial Blue ZL1's. We can only hope they make their way into the public market as they will bring a huge amount of money if ever sold. The CTF VINS started with C9799XXX and were different then the production base VINS.

Owner #2: Rick Schmidt, VP, COO — National Parts Depot

Story: Gary Cockriel with the Corvette Museum paid us (National Parts Depot, NPD) a social visit, to see the business and our private car collection. The NPD collection is comprised of approximately 200 vehicles, mostly Ford and GM products, spanning over 100 years of automotive history. The primary focus of our collection is ultra-low-mile "survivor" cars, as well as special "milestone" and uniquely rare vehicles. At lunch, Gary said "you may be interested in a car that we might have available soon". He told us about the four Imperial Blue 2012 ZL1 Camaros, and how GM had provided them one to raffle as a fund-raiser. He further elaborated that GM was offering another Imperial Blue ZL1 to the Corvette Museum. This time, instead of administrating/promoting a raffle, they intended to sell the car outright, conditional upon a direct donation to benefit the Corvette Museum. We decided it would be well-worth pursuing, and asked Gary to get back to us with more details. Within a week, Gary emailed me copies of Factory Invoices for two different Imperial Blue ZL1’s, a 6-speed with 8,653 miles, and a 6-speed with power sunroof with 6,773 miles. The final terms of the deal seemed reasonable enough to me, and naturally, I chose the lower-mile car with the sunroof.

It took a couple months after that for approvals and paperwork, but finally in mid-February, we consummated the deal, and the car was released for pick-up from GM in Sterling Heights. Our Canton, MI NPD managers picked it up for me, loaded it into one of our southbound NPD semi’s, and it arrived in Ocala FL February 25th. I’ve given it a thorough detail, and driven it a few times, culminated by driving my 12 year old daughter (a diehard Camaro lover) to school. It will now reside within our air-conditioned collection, well looked after, and exercised/driven in appropriate intervals.

It’s a beautiful car!!

Car Details: Mileage on the car when delivered was 6,773 miles. The car contains the following options:

  • CF5 — POWER SUNROOF
  • RTQ — 20" BRIGHT FORGED ALUMINUM
  • WBP — INTERIOR SUEDED MICROFIBER
  • FE9 — 50-STATE EMISSIONS

Note: ZL1registry was told that the other 6-speed (no sunroof) was sold to Rick Hendrick. The last remaining one is to stay with GM. As far as the ZL1registry information, this is up-to-date from what we have been given. We will update more when and if any additional information becomes available.
